Hebrews 10:22-23 “Let us draw near to God with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith… Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for He who promised is faithful.”
Recently, my 4-year old son, Noah, came strolling into our living room holding one Elmo house slipper and one Spiderman house slipper. Both were too small for him, but he so loved those shoes and wanted to wear them. For those who mother toddlers, you know that you often dress your child on the run. They are rarely still long enough to do otherwise. I informed Noah that for these slippers (the kind that fit snugly up around the ankles) to be put on him, he would have to come sit up close to me. As the words came out of my mouth, I was arrested by the thought as if God Himself were speaking it to me. I said, “You’re gonna have to come close if you want me to put these on you.”
Our church was beginning a time of fasting and prayer, and I knew that God had spoken that word to me as it came out of my own mouth. “Renee, there are some things I want you to have. There are some gifts I want to put on you, but I can’t get them on you unless you slow down, come close, and let me fit you with them.”
Hebrews 11:6 says that our God is a “Rewarder of them that diligently seek Him.” In the days and weeks following this encounter with my son, I have sought the Lord as never before, and I have been rewarded. The rewards have included an increased presence of the Almighty, an increased desire to know Him even more, an increase in my faith to believe Him for what seems impossible, and He has allowed me to opportunity to win many souls for the kingdom.
As we approach this life-changing conference, may we prepare by coming close to the Most High and allow Him to do a proper fitting for our new garment, His glory. Renee Talley
